
| This section here is dedicated to Angelina Jolie's work as a Goodwill Ambassador for the UNHCR. She has been invovled and started educating herself with hands on information since 2001 after shooting the film Tomb Raider in Cambodia (where her son Maddox was born). She donates at least half of her paychecks from the movies she stars in to organizations in need to help refugees world wide. She has since published a book Notes From My Travels about her journeys to places like Sierra Leone & the congo. With profits going towards the UN's organizations to help displaced refugees. |

March.02.2007 Angelina Returns To The Crisis In Chad to Visit Darfur Refugees!!!! ![]() UN Ambassador Angelina Jolie makes a two day trip to an eastern camp in Chad to visit refugees and get up close and personal with the issues at hand. This is Angelina's 2nd visit to Chat. Her first was back in 2004. Ms. Jolie also wrote an article on the crisis in the Washington Post. With an international court finally in place she talks about how this may be the moment to stop the violence and deliver justice for the people who have been endlessly tortured as "what the worst people in the world fear most in justice.That's what we should deliver." A bit of the article: "On Monday I asked a group of refugees about their needs. Better tents said one; better access to medical facilities said another. March.13.2007 Angelina Gives NewsWeek Magazine an Interview As An Insight To Her Trip To Chad Angelina Jolie has been spending time in between the border of Darfur & Chad, her second trip there since 2004, gaining light on the needs and dangers of the refugees and UN workers. In photographs, that will break your heart, Angelina has let her travels to be documented in the plight of these people. In the March 13th issue of NewsWeek (on stands now) magazine she gives further insight into those photographs and why she allows herself and the people to be captured during this time. She also shares the touching story of her holding a little boy that was chained to a tree for his own saftey.. " As a first reaction you want to remove [the rope]...... Sept 2, 2007 Angelina Jolie Visits Iraq & Syria On Tuesday, August 28th, UNHCR Ambassador Angelina Jolie visited the bleak areas of Iraq & Syria where she spent time with sick children & elderly refugees learning first hand about the plight of more than 4 million refugees who have been uprooted by the conflict in Iraq. November 14, 2007 Angelina Jolie Calls For Tougher Action ANGELINA JOLIE is calling for world leaders to persecute those who commit crimes against humanity, because it is the only way to hold people to account. The Hollywood actress and human rights campaigner made her plea to international governments in a new article for The Economist magazine, entitled The World in 2008, in which she urged tougher action against rogue leaders. And Jolie, a goodwill ambassador to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), hopes to see something done soon to combat the ongoing genocide in Darfur, western Sudan. She has visited neighbouring Chad twice once in 2003 and again earlier this year (07) - to speak to victims of the Sudanese atrocity and highlight their cause. Writing in The Economist magazine, she says, “Accountability is perhaps the only force powerful enough to break the cycle of violence and retribution that marks so many conflicts. “Through accountability we can begin the process of righting past wrongs, and even change the behaviour of some of the world’s worst criminals.
